His name is Tiki The Party Cat, he naps hard during the day from all the night time partying he’s doing. Friendly with everyone, even the butterflies!

u/invisible_panda 12d ago
How old is Tiki? He looks like a senior kitty :)

u/Julsruls123 12d ago
During his last check up about a month ago the vet said maybe 11. He was rescued from the streets about 3 years ago so not sure how old he is exactly. Definitely living a more peaceful life now not scrappin with the other strays.

u/invisible_panda 12d ago
Aww senior kitties are the best. Thank you for adopting an older cat, especially a void. May his elder years be plentiful :)

Yeah that guy looks like he could win a fight 😂 looks like a survivor though and I'm glad he's got the easy life now.

u/Julsruls123 12d ago
There’s Ring Camera footage of him swatting at some larger dogs on their afternoon walks if they get too close to the front of the house lol He’s a sweetheart but he doesn’t play when it comes to dogs tip toeing on his territory

u/littlemacaron 12d ago
He has such a beautiful unique coat—I’ve never seen anything like it!
IMO he looks to be more senior than 11. When I first saw the pictures I thought he could be 16-17. But he may just have a more mature looking face and a slight thousand-yard stare from living on dem streets as an alley cat 😂

u/Julsruls123 11d ago
He is spry! Still climbs the fences and walls around the property. Hard to tell because he’s very small. I think he is older too (more than 11), but surprises me every day. Just keeps going on, Tiki the Party Cat.

I love Tiki and he’s so lucky you found him. (Even though you probably feel way more lucky)
3
u/Julsruls123 11d ago
You know what, he’s definitely come around even being a rescue from the streets. He will literally come hop on your lap if you call him over and do a couple “ps ps”. Very social cat now and so mellow. He’s a void but definitely fills void that we didn’t know was there til we found each other.

Ohhh my god yes this looks exactly like him! I’ve never seen another cat like that before, that is awesome! Tiki and Pichu! I don’t post a lot but this is really interesting to see people reply with their own stories and their own cats. Thanks for sharing!

He is oblivious while napping. I have a picture from last week of another neighborhood cat walking right up to him and check him out while sleeping. Didn’t even move.

u/mimi-peanut 12d ago
Our senior did the same. We finally realized she had lost her hearing so she only had supervised outside time after being a rescue and outside kitty. Never hurt a fly (or butterfly either). Just looked at them!
Lovely kitty! Looks very content as well.

u/Starbucksina 11d ago
Plant some native milkweed for them to lay eggs and other flowers to attract more butterflies.
4
u/Excellent_Key_2035 12d ago
You know what's funny....I've been seeing them almost daily for the last few months... and I stopped seeing them for a long time as well.
9
u/sunsetphotographer 12d ago
They migrate. Incredibly fascinating animals. Younger generations know where to go despite never having been there. It's really amazing.
Their numbers are struggling mightily due to climate change and urbanization. Plant some native milkweed and you'll see a lot more.

Black cats going orange is usually a sign of tyrosine deficiency. Have that poor baby checked out.

many voids photo orangish in the sun.
26
u/angiosperms- 12d ago
The original commenter is correct. A lot of black cats are orangish because they are not fed diets with appropriate nutrients. A slight dark brownish color only visible in the sun is okay, but the OP's picture is severe.

Thanks for the information, I’ll ask the vet when he goes back for his next scheduled check up. He’s been to the vet regularly since being rescued from the streets about 3 years ago. Vet has given him clean bill of health other than being de-wormed once he was rescued, but I’ll definitely ask next time he goes in.

This can also happen if they lay out in the sun a lot and often happens with senior voids. I didn't think anything looked out of the ordinary in the picture; my actual first thought was "aww hes a senior kitty!" Because of the orange! Lol. Don't worry, OP. While it's good to ask questions out of curiosity at the vet, I really think Tiki is just fine and dandy!! He obviously loves his cat naps out in the sun, inwouksnt be surprised if that's all it is.

I miss seeing Monarchs. We keep milkweed on our property specifically to attract Monarchs. A years ago we had dozens of larva eating the leaves. I haven't seen a single Monarch in at least 6 years now.

An absolute gift. Monarchs are super rare where I am. I haven't seen one in many years :(

u/Necrospire 12d ago
They should be called 'Flutterbys' as they actually do flutter by as opposed to 'Butterfly' which they do not look like but do technically but it's falling with style.

That's a monarch from the super generation, she's probably migrating to south america!
I assume you are on the corridor, central to east north america, if you can plant flowers they like so more can survive the journey.. if you want to learn more watch this planet wild video about monarchs

I have seen butterflies associating w/cats & dogs -- I wonder if there is any chance that a butterfly understands that a dog or cat is a fellow creature as opposed to warm place to perch.

This reminds me of my childhood dog. I was like 12 and just leaving the house to take her for a walk, and there was a lovely, lovely butterfly on our lawn. So I crossed over to it with her, and knelt down in front of it, and was like ahh, how pretty.
CHOMP. My pug (we didn’t know how unethical the breed was ok, this was the olden days of 2007) had the thing squished in her round little mouth.
